The BEHBEHAN-BASHT stretch is fit only for pack through broken hilly country. From RUDIAN to SHIRAZ the track is fit for wheels. SHIRAZ Is situated in a fertile, highly cultivated plain about 7 miles wide, surrounded by mountains. Five miles to the south is an extensive marsh. The rainy season is from 21st November to 15th April. There is never more than 3 days rain at a time. Prevailing wind S.W. Stage 2 SHIRAZ-KERMAN 290 miles. Via NIRIZ and SAIDABAD Place Approx. Leaving SHIRAZ the route runs across stony desert to KHAIRABAD and then across stony hills to KHANEHI-KAT where a level cultivated plain is crossed; thence over stony hills to NIRIZ. NIRIZ lake is some 60 miles long and 3-5 miles wide, dry in summer, with a bed of soft fine salty mud unfit to land on. From NIRIZ gradually climb to BISHNEH and KHAIRABAD. Between KHAIRABAD & SAIDABAD is a salt desert which becomes a bog in wet weather. From SAIDABAD a sandy plain, gradually becoming more stony, is crossed to SA'ADATABAD; thence over gently sloping hills along a valley over the peak of a range. Over the peak a gravel plain is followed to MASHIZ which lies in an open plain in a broad valley. From MASHIZ a further range is crossed and the route then runs over a bare sandy plain 11 miles wide, to KERMAN, which is surrounded by continuous cultivation.
