23 July 1923 August 1923 Extract from Confidential Summary of news received by His Majesty’s Political Residency in the Persian Gulf: “ISFAHAN: The Post Office has notified that letters will be received for transmission to Russia, the Caucasus and Germany by the Resht route but that letters for other destinations in Europe will not be sent by this route.” File 1749/1921 ‘Persian Gulf:- Residency news summaries 1921-25’ [92v] (199/494) | Qatar Digital Library (qdl.qa) 13 August 1923 “Aviation Week” reports that in April 1923 Lt. Colonel Denain, Commandant of the French Air Force in Syria, made a return flight from Damascus to Baghdad via Palmyra, Deir-ez-Zer and Hit. This is the opening of a route for accelerating mails between Paris and Teheran. The service will operate on a monthly schedule, aeroplanes being used between Beyrouth and Baghdad, and from there automobiles onwards to Teheran. 13 September 1923
