THE PERSIAN AIR MAIL

9 December 1924 Two hydroplanes arrived in Enzeli (Pahlevi) in packing cases. These are probably the Junkers machines which arrive in Teheran on 14 December 1924 (see below). 14 December 1924 Although there was no contract yet between Junkers and the Government, two Junkers F13 aircraft, having left Moscow on 12 November 1924, arrived in Teheran on 14 December 1924 carrying mails (465 covers). One returned to Enzeli (Pahlevi) on 16 December 1924 carrying passengers and mails. The mail was flown to Baku, then travelled by sea to the Persian coast and finally on 14 December 1924 left Enzeli by air to Teheran. <Aerophilately 1980 London Congress> Other sources state that one F13 came down in shallow water at Baku, the mail was recovered undamaged and forwarded by train to Teheran. The route was Moscow – Kharkov – Rostov-on-Don – Armavir – Mineralnye Vody – Grozny – Makhachkala -Baku.
