THE PERSIAN AIR MAIL

27 April 1925 Extract from Bushire Residency Diary No.8 of 1925: “AERIAL 85. Colonel F de Pinado, with one mechanic, in the Royal Italian Naval Sea plane “Savoia," arrived at Bushire from Baghdad on the 27th and left the next morning for Bandar Abbas, which he reached the same afternoon. He left Bandar Abbas on the 29th for Charbar, en route for Karachi.” File 1749/1921 ‘Persian Gulf:- Residency news summaries 1921-25’ [27r] (66/494) | Qatar Digital Library (qdl.qa) May 1925 Count Bernstorff of the German Embassy called upon L. Oliphant to enquire whether Britain had any objection to the Junkers company installing an air service from Bushire to Enzeli. Count Bernstorff also said that Junkers is confident of obtaining the monopoly of an air service in Persia. They realise however the British interest in Persia, and would be prepared to come to some agreement with Britain whereby Britain would obtain certain routes for British development. He added that the German government hoped that this information would be regarded by the British as confidential to the extent that the Junker company did not wish the Persians to know that Junkers was willing to come to this agreement with the British. Jarolimek signed a contract whereby Junkers agreed to provide the Persian War Office with 2 pilots (Mossbacher and Mobius) and 3 mechanics for a period of 2 years. It seems that this agreement was brought about by the Persian need for the use of aeroplanes against the Turkomans, and the extreme undesirability of employing Russians, the only other pilots available. 10 May 1925 First flight Teheran-Meshed, by pilot Wasserthal. Some sources state that the route was Teheran – Shahroud – Meshed. This cover is addressed to the Junkers Luftverkehr Persien pilot Robert Mossbacher.
