THE PERSIAN AIR MAIL

24 June 1924 British Intelligence Summary [E6679/255/34] for the week ending June 28 1924 states: “Jarolimek, a representative of the Junker company, recently arrived in Tehran. Among the questions he is discussing with the Persian Government is that of the proposed Moscow-Tehran passenger and postal air service. A report has been received from the French Legation that ten more Junker aeroplanes are being supplied to the Persian Government. A similar report has been received from a quite independent source at Enzeli. Three of the aeroplanes which were reported to have arrived at Enzeli (summary No. 20, paragraph 10), have reached Tehran by motor lorry. Two of these are said to be small dual-control machines for instructional purposes. The hopes of the Government that the moral effect of the use of aeroplanes would be the early submission of the Lurs have not been justified. With the exception of a minor skirmish it is believed that there has been no further fighting, but the Lurs are showing an understandable reluctance to come in or to believe in the genuineness of the amnesty offered by the Government.” <IOR/L/PS/12/1953>
