THE PERSIAN AIR MAIL

The official translation reads: 24 November 1925 In a cipher telegram to the Foreign Office in London, Sir Percy Loraine wrote: 7 December 1925 Jarolimek arrived in Teheran by air from Angora via Tabriz in a three-engined machine with seating for 10 passengers. This machine carried the markings of the Turkish Republic, and is reported to be the property of the Angora Government. Other passengers were Hissameddin Bey, Turkish Military Attaché in Teheran; two German pilots; a German mechanic and a Turkish mechanic. The Persian Government appears to consider this an opportune moment to examine the question of the establishment, within Persia, of a system of commercial air lines. In a Persian communiqué dated October 17th 1925, giving an account of the negotiations recently conducted in Teheran between the Persian Government and the British Director of Civil Aviation with respect to carrying the proposed British air line between Egypt and India over Persian territory, allusion is made to the establishment of a Persian branch of the said line, to be run to Teheran. Two foreign companies are competing for the concession to operate lines in Persia, viz:- 1) The Compagnie Internationale de Navigation Aérienne 2) The Junkers Company The French Government in respect to this question, again draws the attention of His Majesty's Government to the importance of the adoption by France and Great Britain of a common aeronautical policy with respect to Germany, such as that defined in the agreement drawn up on August 10th 1925 between the Allies interested in the question of flight above German territory, which is at present before the British Government for its approval. November 12th 1925. I have been told very personally by Head of State that the French proposals for Air Service are more favourable than those put forward by Junkers. His impression however, is that French Company may not be competent to run the service, and the views of British Air Authorities in this connection, if given to me for his sole personal information, would be much appreciated by him.
